192.168.1.1 Router Login
192.168.1.1 is the second great convention in home networking, and the address to try when 192.168.0.1 does not respond. Linksys, ASUS, Huawei and most European ISP-supplied routers use it.
Which routers answer on 192.168.1.1
Where D-Link and TP-Link settled on 192.168.0.1, another group of manufacturers settled here. Linksys uses it across the E and MR series, ASUS uses it on most RT models, and Huawei and Zyxel use it on the DSL and fibre gateways supplied by carriers across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Older TP-Link and Netgear hardware also used it before both brands moved.
Because carriers ship so much hardware on this address, it is also the one most likely to have been locked down. ISP firmware frequently makes the DNS, firmware and port-forwarding pages read-only, and occasionally hides the admin panel behind a provider account rather than a local password. If whole sections appear greyed out, that is why.

Join its Wi-Fi or plug into a LAN port. A private address is unreachable from mobile data or from any other network, so this step is not optional.

Check the sticker on the unit first — it overrides any published list. Then replace the factory admin password before you do anything else.

192.168.1.1 not opening?
The usual cause is that your router is on 192.168.0.1 instead, or on a carrier-specific address such as 192.168.1.254. VPNs and forced HTTPS are the next two most common causes.
The fastest way to settle it is to read the gateway address off the device in your hand rather than working down a list. On Windows run ipconfig and read Default Gateway; on macOS open System Settings › Network › Details › TCP/IP and read Router.
